TN’s borrowings 17% lower this year

Amid improving revenue, Tamil Nadu’s market borrowings in the initial nine months of 2021-22 FY have been about 17% lower than the previous year.

The borrowing has been carried out through the auction of state government securities or State Development Loans. The state has borrowed ₹52,000 crore during April-December 2021, compared to ₹63,000 in the same period of last year.

The silver lining comes at the backdrop of rebounded revenue receipts of the State, which has increased about 22%, after COVID-19 second wave.
