Tamil Nadu has updates its COVID-19 protocol against the backdrop of of rapid surge in daily fresh cases of coronavirus infection.
Patients eligible for home isolation and treatment in primary care facilities were reaching higher facilities due to lack of awareness and panic. This has resulted in ineffective utilization of time and resources, which need to be spent on severe COVID-19 cases. Thus, an expert committee has recommended for initial triaging and managing of patients at all the healthcare facilities.
Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan said the updated protocol focuses on home isolation for fully-vaccinated and asymptomatic persons. The new protocol has been updated in consultation with the directors of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Rural Health Services and health officials.
