Knit cloth manufacturers decry the hike of yarn price

The members of Knit Cloth Manufacturers Association held a demonstration on Tuesday condemning the hike in yarn and cotton prices and seeking its reduction, near Tiruppur railway station. The President of the association told the media that it was the responsibility of the Central government to ensure the supply of raw materials and it must “respect the sentiments” of the knitwear industry in Tiruppur. He demanded the Central government to control the yarn prices, to stop the export of yarn to other countries and to cut the import duty on cotton. He also asked the State government to form Tamil Nadu Cotton Corporation from which the mills in the State could procure cotton.

The demonstration was held at a time of two-day strike announced by the garment exporting units of Tiruppur.
