Governor of Telangana Inaugurates Gem Celebration International Women’s Day

Governor of Telangana inaugurated ‘Minimally Invasive Gynaecology Surgery Centre of Excellence at GEM hospital through video conferencing during the participation in the International Women’s Day celebration. She appreciated GEM hospital for providing training and specialty care in abdominal surgery. Commented on Palanivelu’s significant achievement in the field of laparoscopy and robotic surgery. Dr Palanivelu said incidence of cancer of cervix and uterus is the commonest cancer next to breast. Early cancer cancers easily may be detected by simple PAP smear tests. Due to lack awareness and lack of symptoms in early stage women present late stage. Minimally invasive surgery namely laparoscopic and robotic surgery is not only less pain, faster recover and may resume routine work soon.  In order to commemorate this special day GEM Hospital, Coimbatore will organize a Gynaec Awareness Meet on March 6, presided by Dr. A. Nirmala, Dean, Coimbatore Medical College. The awareness program will include debate on gynaecological cancers and trivial gynaecology problems.

The department of endogynecology at GEM hospital has been running successfully for more than 20 years mainly focusing treatment of benign gynaecological conditions such fibroid uterus, adenomyosis, ovarian cyst, PCOD, pelvic endometriosis etc. Newly inaugurated centre will focus on Urogynecological issues such as urinary incontinence, prolapse. The newly inaugurated Dr. Palanivelu’s Minimally Invasive Cancer Surgery Centre has an exclusive department to cater to women’s cancer related diseases like uterine, cervix and ovarian cancers. Apart from this GEM, does a cervical cancer vaccination regularly. GEM Department of obesity and diabetes surgery conducted an annual bariatric support group meet (New Leaf – 2021) on the occasion of International Women’s day, which is a first of its kind. Around 100 post Bariatric patients participated. Psychiatric therapy, Fitness training, dietary counselling was also a part of the program. Best participants was awarded at the end of the program.
