Work for rehabilitation of ponds under Smart City Project nearing completion

The work of rehabilitating the ponds under the Smart City project in Coimbatore is in full swing. These works are currently nearing completion.

Under the Smart City project, the ponds are being rehabilitated at a cost of Rs.39.74 crore for 1.2 km in Ukkadam Periyakulam area and Rs.62 crore for 4.3 km in Phase one area. Work to strengthen the banks around the pond is complete. The construction of natural water treatment plants, bicycle lanes, parks, snack bars, floating walkways, recreational features, playgrounds, pedestrian walkways, colored lights, waterway disposal in ponds are in progress.

Similarly, a smart city project at a cost of Rs 48 crore is underway in the Valankulam area. The work of decorating the lake is almost complete. Corporation officials said, “The Smart City project in Coimbatore, Periyakulam and Valankulam areas is about 90 per cent complete. Soon, all the work will be completed and will be open for public use. The road has been converted into a model road on behalf of the corporation. The roundana near the post office has been beautified under the Smart City project.” they said.
