The formal inauguration of the “Noyyal River Rejuvenation project” by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palaniswamy, in the presence of Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme SP Velumani has heralded a new chapter in the history of the Kongu Region. The 230 Crore project will help in restoring the Noyyal River to its pristine glory and make it flow once again as a life giving river to the people of theWestern Districts of Tamil Nadu.
The Kongu Global Forum, representing 7 Western Districts of Tamil Nadu along with Siruthuli in Coimbatore, Olirum Erodu in Erode, Jeevanadhi Noyyal and Vanathukkul Tirupur in Tiruppur have been making several representations to the TN Government to initiate the project in order to avert a severe water crisis. A host of other NGOs in all these Districts have been relentlessly working for the revival of this river over the past two decades. Members of Kongu Global Forum and Siruthuli had also called on the Minister SP Velumani to express their thanks to him for his support in rejuvenating Noyyal river. He has further assured of all possible assistance to make this region water sufficient.
